Eid can be translated to “festival” or “feast” in Arabic and it is a time of celebration in Islam. Eid also comes during the end of a fast, in which there are 2 Eid celebrations in the year: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Fitr occurs at the end of Ramadan. This celebrates the “feast of the breaking of the fast”. Eid al-Adha commemorates the end of Muslims’ pilgrimage to Mecca.
How is Eid Celebrated?
Muslims come together and celebrate Eid by greeting each other, baking sweets and formal attire. The celebration also differs from country to country.
